The Arctic Mayors’ Forum partnered with The Gordon Foundation to host three Arctic Policy Hackathons between 2022 and 2024. The Arctic Policy Hackathon model was developed to engage Arctic youth on key policy issues, foster the exchange of ideas, and support the development of informed, experience-based policy recommendations.
Hosted in Reykjavík, Iceland, each Arctic Policy Hackathon brought together youth from across the circumpolar North, creating opportunities to connect, collaborate, and actively contribute to policy discussions that affect their communities and the future of the Arctic. During the two- to three-day workshops, participants explored shared challenges, identified priority themes, and worked together to develop practical, targeted policy recommendations.
Following the workshops, participants presented their recommendations at the Arctic Circle Assembly. In sessions alongside political leaders, industry experts, researchers, and other decision-makers, participants shared their ideas and perspectives, ensuring that Arctic youth voices were represented in conversations shaping Arctic policy and governance.
