Arctic mayors’ forum

Our Mission

Formally established in 2019, our mission is to ensure the participation of mayors and elected community leaders at Arctic governance tables to ensure the values, goals and interests of Arctic peoples are voiced and considered. Out common goal is for our citizens to have good lives in sustainably developed and resilient communities throughout the Arctic. We achieve our mission by providing an open and collaborative platform for our members, including Indigenous Peoples from around the Arctic.

PRIORITY AREAS

Sustainable development

The pursuit of a sustainably developed Arctic requires policy and innovation that meet the needs of our communities large and small.

Attractiveness and Retention

As access to the Arctic’s natural resources becomes easier, there is a growing need to retain Arctic talent while also attracting newcomers to meet new demands.

Youth

Arctic Youth want greater agency to influence the policies that affect them. We work to engage and connect young people by providing opportunities to shape the policies that impact their lives.

Working with partners

With growing global interest in the Arctic, and the urgent need to combat climate change, there is an increasing need to cooperate with partners on policy issues that most strongly impact the people who call the Arctic home.
